Homebound Status opens a world of home health services. It is one of the most vital determining factors for you to receive benefits and coverage. So, what do Homebound Status mean?

Medicare considered an individual to be homebound if:

  • The individual has a condition, due to an illness or injury, that restricts their ability to leave home except with the support or help of another person or the aid of supportive devices such as crutches, a cane, a wheelchair, or a walker
  • The individual has a condition such that leaving his or her home is medically inadvisable. He or she does not have to be bedridden to be considered homebound, in such a way that there exists an inability to leave home, or that leaving home will require a considerable and taxing effort
  • Absences from home due to the need of receiving health care treatment, including regular absences to participate in therapeutic, psychosocial, or medical treatment in an adult day-care program that is licensed, certified, or accredited by a State to furnish adult day-care services shall not disqualify an individual from being considered as homebound
